Sonali is an illustrator and author living on Salt Spring Island, originally from South India. She finds herself continually struck by the wonder and miraculous quality of the natural world, along with ongoing questions about existence—what is the purpose of life? What are the qualities of human nature, truth, logic, beauty and morality? And how can understanding all this help make us better people?” The books she has chosen to illustrate have reflected some of these thoughts.
Most recently her first written and illustrated book, I Dream of Ganesha deals with the idea overcoming fear and living life through love. She is developing other books along similar lines, and is eager to collaborate with anyone looking to realize their words through illustration as well.
The majority of Sonali’s published work has been digital, but she uses traditional media as well and finds that she can create different moods, for a wide range of stories to a varying audience. She flourishes when faced with a challenging brief, the opportunity for meaningful collaboration, and the freedom to experiment—eager to venture into new creative realms.
Sonali’s work has been published by: Penguin Random House US/Canada/Spain, Penguin Ladybird UK, Bala kids books (an imprint of Shambhala Publications), Restless books –New York, Gibbs Smith – Utah, Lantana Publishing- UK, La Courte Echelle- Quebec, Groundwood books- Canada, Hachette, The Hindu, Juggernaut and Amaryllis publishing- India, Mondadori Libri- Italy, Actes Sud- France, Psichogios Publications- Athens and Alice Jeunesse- Belgium among others.
